 Persona

Creating a self-portrait or a portrait of a someone else (hero, famous author, historical figure, etc.) provides a unique opportunity to combine symbolic imagery with a personal likeness. A picture speaks a thousand words! Think about what colors, symbols or background images can enhance the person you are depicting.

In these examples I have used the DP armband logo and swirling winds of change to help depict my mothers plight from Nazi war camp survivor to moving from camp to camp until she finally was sent across the ocean through a WWII relief sponsor agency.

DP stands for Displaced Person. My mother had to wear this armband during and after WWII to identify her as a registered displaced Polish native living in temporary shelter in Austria while she waited for a sponsor to send her to a new, permanant home.
